Interview Questions
Mark travels back and forth across the country where he’s
asked a lot of questions. He doesn’t mind answering questions
and is always willing to do interviews. In fact, we’ve compiled
a list of some of the questions most often asked. Feel free to use
them or come up with questions of your own.
Some questions you might want to consider to get
the conversation going include:
- Where do your ideas come from?
- What inspired you to do what you do?
- When you were a kid did you like to draw? What got
you started?
- Did you always know you would be a writer and illustrator?
- I understand that you like to use a pen when creating
your art? Specifically a BIC pen. Why?
- What is a Wacom and why do you use it to create your
art work?
- How long does it take for you to come up with an idea
for a story, write it and illustrate it?
- I know you have written and illustrated most of your
picture books. What was it like to collaborate on the works you
didn’t write?
- If there’s one thing that you would like people
to take away from one of your speaking engagements, what would
it be?
- Is it true that there is a mouse on every picture of
all your works?
Some questions for a more serious conversation include:
- Why are the arts so important in schools?
- When it comes to schools, where do you see them failing?
- You promote literacy in schools, so how does The Flower
Man, a wordless picture book, promote literacy?
- What do you think are the differences between motivational
speaking and your speaking?
